The first business venture of Elon Musk was Zip2, which provided online city guide software to newspapers. The venture was started by Elon himself, his brother and a friend. The company took time to get off the ground, and Elon slept on the couch of the startup and used to shower and use the bathroom at the YMCA (charitable organization). Elon Musk’s first-ever entrepreneurial venture was sold for $307 million in 1999, earning him $22 million for his 7% share in the company when he was just 27 years old.


X.com:

Following the success of Zip2, Elon started a new financial services company alongside a few other members.X.com was one of the world’s first online banks, which had also merged with a company named Confinity, which was a software company based in Silicon Valley. X.com was named PayPal and was then bought by eBay in 2002 for $1.5 billion.


Tesla and SpaceX:

These are two ventures started by Elon Musk with other members. Musk could easily retire with his share of eBay, but he decided to continue his journey and invested all his money into SpaceX and Tesla, and had to borrow money to pay his house rent. SpaceX became the first commercial company to send its spaceship into orbit and return it safely back to the Earth. The Tesla Model 3 became the first electric car to sell 1 million units globally.
